MEDIA ADVISORY: JHU Forums on Race in America Continue

WHAT: JHU Forums on Race in America return for the 2016-17 academic year with a panel discussion, “The Next 50 years: Black Power’s Afterlife and the Struggle for Social Justice,” featuring writer and historian Robin Kelley, Baltimore-based political organizer Dayvon Love, and Salamishah Tillet, a scholar, activist, social critic, and media personality. The event will draw on the panelists’ expertise in African-American history, social activism, and political organizing.

Nathan Connolly, the Johns Hopkins Herbert Baxter Adams Associate Professor of History, will moderate the discussion with questions that consider the importance of black knowledge and experience in securing racial and economic justice in American politics and institutions from the 1970s until today.

WHEN: 7 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 27

WHERE: Shriver Hall, Homewood Campus, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore.

DETAILS: The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The public can view a live stream of the talk at http://hub.jhu.edu/vip/hopkins-race-forum-live.
