WHAT: Seventeen Men: Portraits of Black Civil War Soldiers, portrays the faces of 17 African-American soldiers, including one from Baltimore, who served under Captain William A. Prickitt, who recorded the faces of each man in a miniature photo album. Artist Shayne Davidson researched the lives of these men and recreated their images in life-sized drawings, which will be on exhibit. The album that inspired Davidson is part of the permanent collection at the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Vanessa Tall Bryant of Nashville, Tenn., the granddaughter of one of the soldiers, will visit the exhibit along with Cory Atwood, Prickitt’s great-grandson.
WHEN: The exhibit opens at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. Earlier that day, at about 3:30 p.m., Bryant, the granddaughter of one of the soldiers, will visit the exhibit along with Cory Atwood, the great-grandson of Prickitt, the white officer under whom Bryant’s grandfather served. The exhibit will be open until June 2017.
WHERE: Johns Hopkins University’s Evergreen Museum & Library, North Wing Gallery, 4545 N. Charles St.
